Cody Ceci and Johnny Oduya are all injured, head coach Guy Boucher revealed that Derick Brassard, Nate Thompson,After a number of lineup regulars were not on the ice for practice Monday, while Matt Duchene is sick with the flu.

and they could be all in," Boucher said. "They could be all out,Authentic Patrik Laine jersey,"We have to wait and see for (Tuesday), and it could be half-and-half. I don't know."

exiting in the first period.,The only thing Boucher said was decided for certain is that Nate Thompson will not play,Authentic Daniel Sedin jersey, and will not return before the All-Star break in late January. Thompson sustained a lower-body injury during the Senators game last Friday against the San Jose Sharks

" Boucher said. "Right now we have to be prepared for all those scenarios, and it gives an opportunity for other guys to get those minutes and play well,"We have to go with the players that are ready to go, and tomorrow morning it'll be clearer what we're going to have."

Also added to the equation is that defenseman Mark Borowiecki skated in practice Monday wearing a contact jersey. He has been out since Nov. 19 after sustaining a concussion.

so we're at the last step, adidas Daniel Sedin jersey,Authentic T. J. Oshie jersey, has he gotten enough reps for the timing on the ice," Boucher said. "It's not about the injury right now,"Right now it's more about, which is very positive.

but maybe we're an emergency mode where if he can go,adidas Henrik Sedin jersey, if we can be more patient it would be smart,"It will depend also on if Oduya and Ceci are ready to go. If they're both ready to go, he can go."

Ottawa coughed up a 3-0 lead of its own, the Senators stormed back to defeat San Jose 6-5 in overtime. The next night, adidas Alex Ovechkin jersey,Ottawa is looking for its third straight win following to high-scoring victories on home ice. After spotting the Sharks a three-goal lead on Friday, before scoring three more unanswered goals to defeat the first place Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3.

"It's been like that all year, and it's been tough to battle all year, all of a sudden, adidas Patrik Laine jersey," Boucher said. "Whenever we've gotten those good stretch games and we're playing good, the same thing. We've had injuries, to be honest with you, to be honest with you.", and guys sick, yes

The 2018 NFL draft pool isn't set yet, but the list of this year's most coveted prospects is starting to come into clear view with the start of the playoffs on the horizon.

UCLA signal-caller Josh Rosen and Penn State running back Saquon Barkley all announced their intentions to declare for the draft following bowl games. ,While official word proved elusive a week ago, former USC quarterback Sam Darnold

And with the non-playoff portion of the draft order finalized (pick Nos. 1-20)—with the exception of an impending coin flip between the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders—we can start to make some more robust projections.

Below, you'll find an updated first-round mock draft accompanied by a spotlight on three prospects and their best potential landing spots come April.

respectively, please note pick Nos. 21-32 are listed based on playoff seeding. Therefore, the No. 6 seeds in each conference (the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons) hold picks 21 and 22,As a bit of housekeeping, and so forth.

everybody take a chill pill,” Brown said. “So for old Case (quarterback Keenum) and (wideout Adam) Thielen and the boys, just relax and take a moment and ‘we’ll be all right, we’re going to do what we do.”,“There’s a ‘nobody thinks we can do it anyway’ because a home team has never hosted a Super Bowl,’ you know. Just relax

the hall of fame coach.,Another advantage the Vikings have is Zimmer as coach, Brown said. Brown played seven of his eight seasons for Bud Grant

and that’s all you can ask.,“There seem to be a lot of similarities between Bud and Zim,” Brown said. “Zim seems to be a no-nonsense guy who’s good with the players — the players seem to like him

“Zim’s got the calm, cool demeanor on the sidelines — you never see him get too excited. Bud never showed expression — maybe one time at the old (Metropolitan Stadium) Met I think he smiled the last 14 seconds of a game.”

” Brown said. “If somebody’s going to beat them, really well — I expect them to play well,“Zim’s got the boys playing really, they’re going to have to beat them — they’re not going to just give away the game.

and that’s what it’s all about.,“The Vikings look pretty awesome, and they’ll probably go as far as the defense takes them — usually that’s what you need. They can play on the road and in weather. They’ve got to get some breaks here and there

they can beat anybody and they’ve shown that.”,“If they can play clean, without holding and different penalties at the wrong time

What We Learned: Flames need push amid newsworthy weekend
Posted by: aliciahuang - 01-11-2018, 06:47 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

kicked off by the Great Glen Gulutzan Stick-Tossing Incident of 2018.,Plenty of goings on in Calgary this weekend

He was, adidas Steven Stamkos jersey, unhappy with the way the Flames were practicing on Friday and launched into an F-bomb-laden tirade that included both the phrase “check the standings” and impressive distance on the stick toss itself., apparently

It was a bit of a surprise because the Flames are generally playing really well and, but his point about the standings should be well taken by everyone on that roster: This Flames team has the talent to be cruising in the Pacific, had picked up two straight wins. So maybe this was an outsized reaction to guys maybe playing at 75 percent intensity in practice, at the time, of course, they had just 20 wins, and isn’t. It’s a criticism that could apply to a few other teams in the division, with a home game against Anaheim (directly ahead of them in the standings) before a four-game road trip., but through 40 games, and have also played in five three-point games against Western Conference teams. Which is to say they’re giving away a decent amount of points and the team was about to enter a bit of a tough stretch

they maybe come back from that road trip three,So the motivation for the meltdown is apparent enough: If the Flames didn’t keep up their recent winning ways, four, or five points back of the last wild card spot.

especially given that there were national TV people in the building,There was some amount of handwringing about how performative the display was, and you’ve certainly seen less scenery chewing in local dinner theater productions of Death of a Salesman. But sometimes you need a bit of scenery chewing. It’s not always a bad thing. Jack Nicholson isn’t exactly going for “subtle” in The Shining, right?

And certainly with the Flames dramatic win on Saturday night — which barely avoided gifting Anaheim at least an OT point — maybe people will say it worked. It’s difficult to draw that correlation; the Flames dramatically outplayed a team in the midst of a five-game roadtrip which they are, better than. There were some problems in the third period and drama throughout, frankly, say, but on the balance the Flames deserved the win. Is that Gulutzan’s doing? Probably not, but he’s done a pretty good job with this club after coming in with plenty of question marks about why he got hired over, Bruce Boudreau.

especially the power play. And that doesn’t make sense for a team with as much top-six talent as the Flames have on hand. Even Micheal Ferland seems to have developed into a nice little skill player — check that pass to Dougie Hamilton for the game-winner — and when you have that luxury,Authentic Brent Burns jersey,The Flames are currently fourth in the NHL in possession but have a surprisingly low shooting percentage (seventh-last in the league) that has almost certainly cost them a number of games. The special teams are wanting, it doesn’t make sense that the Flames should have a minus-3 goal difference, especially because they draw more penalties but commit fewer than the league average.

And as to the possession thing, and the rest are a smidge below it. So while this club seemingly has an elite process, the Flames have five defenseman who have played at least 500 minutes halfway through the season. Only Hamilton and Mark Giordano are north of 50 percent in possession , those five guys are only on the ice for about a third of the game, that’s only because their top pairing are beyond dominant, and everyone else is relatively pliable. The problem is, so that leaves a lot of time in which the Flames aren’t doing anywhere near as well as the overall numbers would lead you to believe.

The roster problems aren’t Gulutzan’s fault, you run into issues. (It should also be said that Mike Smith is punching well above his weight, of course. The Flames have a great top-six forward group and probably the best top pair in the league. After that, the third line is doing okay, only adding concern that if he turns back into a pumpkin, the team’s playoff chances could be toast.) The first two lines are pushing around opponents quite well, and the fourth is getting caved in most nights.

Things may only be complicated by what is perceived as a failed experiment with Jaromir Jagr, as does most of the league these days — and “fitness” — Jagr seemingly can’t stay healthy this year — than the sport’s elder statesman being not good enough to play in this league any more. Calgary’s goal difference per 60 rate when Jagr is on the ice at 5-on-5 is among the highest on the team, who is now reportedly working with Calgary management on an exit strategy despite some solid underlying numbers in his 22 games. This seems more like an issue of both “fit” — the Flames play fast, the Flames’ forward depth is just a little more exposed, albeit against lower-end competition. Still,Authentic Jake Guentzel jersey, without Jagr, and that’s not going to help them win games long-term.

to me,Authentic Vladimir Tarasenko jersey,Meanwhile, a coaching issue. Gulutzan’s job is to figure out those problems specifically. That he seemingly can’t or hasn’t yet is an issue. The club just played Game 41 and it’s still not in the playoffs. They’re close and there’s plenty of runway left, special teams problems are,Authentic Joe Thornton jersey, but this club needs a middling winning streak or three to really cement any sort of playoff position. You have the high-end talent,Authentic Steven Stamkos jersey, so to not get results like this in what seems to be a fairly fixable way may speak to larger limitations.

it’s tough to get a read on this team. What “should” they be? Probably top-three in their division,Broadly speaking, but it’s also not hard to see why they’re not. Maybe the stick toss is a turning point for them. Maybe it’s not. The point is it was probably necessary because, on paper, adidas Auston Matthews jersey, this team shouldn’t have to count on a few winning streaks to solidify their playoff bona fides.

they've allowed quite a few shots on goal over these past four games., Although the Detroit Red Wings are on their longest winning streak of the season

Jimmy Howard has turned aside enough of them.

and Anthony Mantha and Gustav Nyquist scored in the third period to lift the Red Wings to their fourth straight victory,Howard made 38 saves, 4-2 over the Florida Panthers on Friday night. Howard has played in every game of Detroit's modest streak, stopping 145 of 151 shots.

" Howard said. "Most goalies in this league,"The guys are allowing me to see the puck, when they're allowed to see the puck, they're going to make the first save."

The Red Wings were outshot 40-19 by Florida. In fact, but Mantha put Detroit back ahead on the power play and Nyquist added a breakaway goal with 4:38 remaining., they've allowed at least 38 shots in three of the four games during this winning streak. They blew a 2-0 lead Friday

and they hemmed us in our end — no doubt about it — for lots of the first and second,"They won more puck battles and puck races," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "You look around the league, I don't know how many teams win without elite goaltending. ... I think that's what Jimmy's been giving us."

who had their game at Boston on Thursday night postponed because of severe weather. They were able to make it from there to Detroit to play Friday's game as scheduled.,Andreas Athanasiou and Tomas Tatar also scored for Detroit. Mike Matheson and Aleksander Barkov scored for the Panthers

but the Panthers quickly gave Detroit two straight power plays,Florida outshot the Red Wings 29-11 through two periods but still trailed 2-1. Barkov tied it on a 2-on-1 break, and the Red Wings converted on the second. Martin Frk's slap shot from the point beat goalie James Reimer to the glove side. Mantha, positioned in front, adidas Brent Burns jersey, was credited with the goal on an apparent deflection.

"I thought we had all the momentum after we tied the game," Florida coach Bob Boughner said. "You can't keep anything going when you've got to kill four straight minutes of penalties.", but those two penalties killed it

who scored Detroit's only two goals in an overtime win against Ottawa on Wednesday,Athanasiou, gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead just 42 seconds into the game, skating in from the left and backhanding the puck past Reimer. Dylan Larkin made a nice play behind the net to help set up Detroit's next goal in the second period. He got the puck to Athanasiou, who made an easy pass to Tatar in front of the net.

collecting the puck near center ice with a nifty spin and then breezing past a defenseman before beating Howard.,Matheson scored a terrific goal with 1.5 seconds left in the second

when the puck deflected off Detroit's Justin Abdelkader and went high in the air before landing on the back of an unsuspecting Reimer and appearing to go in the net. The goal was taken away after officials ruled Abdelkader's stick was up too high when the puck bounced off it.,The Red Wings had two goals disallowed after reviews. One came in the second period

Henrik Zetterberg reached the 600-assist mark on Nyquist's goal. ... The Panthers have lost two in a row following a five-game winning streak. ... Florida had a penalty-kill percentage of 92.7 over its previous 19 games.

the Columbus Blue Jackets were reaching the end of an historic 16-game winning streak that catapulted the team into the Stanley Cup playoffs.,A year ago

As the Blue Jackets pass the halfway point of the 2017-18 season, resulting in a 3-5-2 record in its last 10 games., there’s a far different feel with the direction of this club. It has been plagued recently by injuries and inconsistency

Columbus (23-16-3) returns home to face the Florida Panthers (17-18-5) on Sunday night at Nationwide Arena.,After going 1-1-0 on a quick two-game road trip to Dallas and Colorado

Despite their struggles, but only four points behind the first-place Washington Capitals.,adidas Vladimir Tarasenko jersey, the Blue Jackets are keeping pace in the Metropolitan Division. They’re in third place

The Panthers sit in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic but trail the division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning by 22 points as they play their 41st of 82 games Sunday.

Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella is trying to keep his finger off the panic button while he waits for injured players to return and for the forward lines to start generating more offense. Columbus has scored three fewer goals that it has allowed (111-114) in 42 games this season.

winger Cam Atkinson and defenseman Ryan Murray.,Part of that can be blamed on the lengthy injury list that includes key players such as centers Brandon Dubinsky and Alexander Wennberg

“I just haven’t seen our team together,Authentic Auston Matthews jersey,” Tortorella said. “We’ve had some guys struggle all year. I want to see how fast we can play when they’re feeling good about themselves., and guys playing as a group with a total confidence

‘I’m OK,“They can sit there and tell you after games when they don’t get a goal or it’s just been a struggle that, I’m OK,’ but they’re really not. They live on succeeding and scoring goals, especially some of the guys that are out right now.”

the Panthers have similar scoring issues with a minus-19 goal differential.,While the Blue Jackets are mostly relying on goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and their defense to carry them through

“We just need to score more on the chances we get, who ranks third on the team with 12 goals and 35 points. “We just need to score and control the game. We play the same way we are right now we’re going to win a lot of games.”,” said Panthers center Aleksander Barkov

Barkov’s assessment was echoed throughout the Florida locker room.

“We need to do a better job with the chances that we do get,” Panthers defensemen Mike Matheson said.

The Panthers have one more stop left after Columbus on a road trip to start the calendar year. They’ve yet to win, with the latest lost a 4-2 setback Friday night against the Red Wings.

” said Panthers goaltender James Reimer, you wish you could come up with some saves, but that’s what the next game is for,“As a goalie, adidas Jake Guentzel jersey, whose loss in Detroit was only his second in regulation in the past seven games.

The Blue Jackets aren’t desperate for a win, but would prefer not to let a chance slip away at home to pick up some valuable points before heading back out on the road for two games this week.

” Tortorella said. “You kind of base some things off last year, but it’s easy for a coaching staff to say, ‘This is what we can be’,adidas Joe Thornton jersey,“I think I know what we can be, but each year it’s a different situation. I’m not sure where it all goes.

we’re a team that has to scratch and claw. That’s how we talk about our club. (It) is scratch and claw,“Right now, business-like structure.”

Karlsson breaks tie, Golden Knights beat Rangers 2-1
Posted by: aliciahuang - 01-11-2018, 06:29 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

William Karlsson scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday night.

James Neal also scored and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 28 shots to improve to 9-2-1 in front of a season-high 18,234 in attendance.

The Western Conference-leading Golden Knights have the top home record in the NHL at 18-2-1. The expansion team is 9-0-1 in its last 10 at home, including nine straight wins.

defenseman Deryk Engelland found Jonathan Marchessault with a blueline-to-blueline pass. Marchessault then pushed the puck forward to Reilly Smith,Behind excellent puck movement on the winner, who found Karlsson at the right dot for a one-timer for his team-high 22nd of the season.

making his 10th appearance of the season,Mika Zibanejad scored for the Rangers and Ondrej Pavelec, finished with 32 saves.

Dan Girardi had a goal and an assist in the first period before blocking a shot above the shoulders in the second period and leaving Tampa Bay's victory over Detroit.

Girardi turned his head to the left when Detroit's Martin Frk took a shot on a power play and the puck appeared to hit the defenseman in the neck. He lay face down on the ice while a doctor evaluated him on the ice and was eventually able to sit up. Girardi later skated slowly off the ice with teammates at his side and walked toward the dressing room. The team confirmed in the second intermission that Girardi would not return to play, adding initial reports were he was OK.

Girardi assisted on Tyler Johnson's goal that put Tampa Bay up 2-0. Yanni Gourde and Nikita Kucherov restored two-goal leads in the second and third periods. Gourde added a second goal of the night late in the game, putting the Lightning ahead 5-2.

Louis Domingue stopped 34 shots for the NHL-leading Lightning. They avoided losing three straight for the first time this season.

filling in for Jimmy Howard,Detroit had won a season-high four straight. Gustav Nyquist and Justin Abdelkader scored in the second and third period to pull the Red Wings within a goal. Detroit's Petr Mrazek made 19 saves, who was out with a lower-body injury.

Evgeni Malkin got his second goal of the game at 2:51 of overtime to rally Pittsburgh past Boston.

Phil Kessel set up Malkin, who one-timed a shot over Tuukka Rask's pad during a 2-on-1.

Malkin and Kessel scored power-play goals in regulation, Jamie Oleksiak and Riley Sheahan also connected, Kris Letang, and Sidney Crosby had three assists. The Penguins got consecutive victories for the first time since Dec. 1-2 when topped Buffalo twice.

Matt Murray stopped all six shots he faced in relief of Tristan Jarry,Authentic Wayne Simmonds jersey, who made 14 saves on 19 shots before he was pulled after the Bruins' fifth goal.

Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, David Backes,Authentic Claude Giroux jersey, Noel Acciari and Ryan Spponer scored in regulation for Boston. The Bruins lost, but earned a point for the 11th straight game (8-0-3).

Nicklas Backstrom scored at 4:17 of overtime and Alex Ovechkin had a power-play goal and an assist to help Washington beat St. Louis.

Recognizing a change of possession in Washington's end late in overtime, Backstrom headed down ice, received a long pass from T.J. Oshie and beat goalie Carter Hutton for his ninth goal of the season.

Ovechkin tied it at 2 on the power play 8 eight minutes into the third with his 27th goal,Authentic Shayne Gostisbehere jersey, and Lars Eller gave the Capitals the lead with 9:11 left. The lead did not last long, with Carl Gunnarson credited with a goal after his shot into pack of players evaded goaltender Braden Holtby with 4:09 remaining.

Holtby made 30 saves. The Capitals have won four in a row overall and nine consecutive home games.

Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and an assist for the Blues, and Alexander Steen also scored. They have lost two in a row and six of their last seven road games.

Anton Forsberg made 32 saves, and Nick Schmaltz and Alex DeBrincat scored in the first period in Chicago's victory over slumping Edmonton.

Brandon Saad and Jordan Oesterle also scored to help the Blackhawks win at home for the first time since Dec. 17. Jonathan Toews extended his point streak to four games.

It was a busy night on the ice across the National Hockey League on Saturday night with 18 teams in action. In Vegas there is a thing called the 'Grand Salami',Authentic Sidney Crosby jersey, the Salami went way over the total, where you can wager on the total number of goals on any given night from all of the games. On Saturday, 11 of the 18 teams scored three or more goals, with four clubs going for six or more markers. On the flip side, and when that happens you know it was a good night from a fantasy perspective. In fact, adidas Sidney Crosby jersey, it wasn't a banner night for goaltenders, and Saturday featured no shutouts.

Boston's Patrice Bergeron caught fire against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes, potting four goals with an assist and plus-4 rating, while partner in crime Brad Marchand chipped in with four helpers and a plus-4 rating. Those were the two biggest contributors for fantasy owners and DFS players, too. Ottawa's Craig Anderson received plenty of support against the league's highest-scoring offense, but there were many other productive players, the Tampa Bay Lightning. He needed it, as he faced 46 shots in the 6-3 victory.

After having just one multi-goal scorer last Saturday, I did that, it was a fantasy fiesta on this weekend. Hopefully you were able to catch some pucks and didn't waste your day watching that sport with the brown oblong ball. Just kidding, too.

Sean Couturier's magical season continues, as he bagged two more goals to get him up to 21 goals and 40 points across 41 games. His previous career best in goals was 15, back in 2014-15, and his second goal helped him to a new career best in points, besting his previous highs of 39 set in 2013-14 and 2015-16.

Claude Giroux picked up a goal and three points, his second straight multi-point outing. Since Dec. 6 he has one goal and 10 assists on the man advantage, and a total of three goals with 20 assists over the past 14 games since Dec. 6.

Paul Stastny is starting to show signs of life, picking up a goal and assist in Philadelphia. He has posted two goals, four points and a plus-4 rating in three games since flipping the calendar from 2017 to 2018 after closing out December when no goals and two assists over his final 10 games.

Ivan Barbashev picked up a goal and assist on Saturday. It doubled his overall offensive production, as he entered the game with just one goal and two points over his first 15 outings.

Vladimir Tarasenko picked up two assists and a plus-2 rating for his first multi-point game since Dec. 16, and his best plus-minus rating since also posting a plus-2 back on Nov. 25.

Brian Elliott allowed three goals on 31 shots in a victory against the Blues, his former team. It is his first time with back-to-back wins since rattling off six consecutive wins from Dec. 4-16.

Cam Ward allowed two goals on two shots in just 5:43, getting the quick hook from bench boss Bill Peters in Boston. Scott Darling wasn't much better, adidas Nolan Patrick jersey, coughing up five goals on 28 shots as the Bruins were just too much.

As mentioned above, but they weren't the only ones. David Pastrnak recorded a power-play goal with a pair of assists with a plus-3 rating. Kevan Miller also finished with an assist, Bergeron and Marchand posted big nights, three hits and a plus-4 rating.

On the flip side of those big performances, adidas Shayne Gostisbehere jersey, there were some awful stat lines for the guys in red. Derek Ryan and Jeff Skinner were each scoreless with a minus-5 rating, while Elias Lindholm was blanked with a minus- 4.

Anton Khudobin received all the offensive support he needed in the first few minutes of the first period, allowing just one goal on 28 shots to pick up the victory. He improved to 9-2-3 with a 2.37 goals-against average while posting a .925 save percentage in 15 appearances.

It might be overlooked in the box score, and not the sexiest fantasy stat, adidas Wayne Simmonds jersey, but Sean Kuraly won 10 of his 11 faceoffs.

Both Frederik Andersen and Jacob Markstrom were locked in a goaltender duel in Toronto on Saturday, as both netminders allowed two goals on 36 shots. The game was decided in a shootout, with Tyler Bozak sending the home crowd away happy. Bozak also scored in regulation while winning 11 of his 17 faceoffs.

Auston Matthews has been red hot since returning from a two-week absence due to an upper-body injury. He has six goals and seven points in seven games since returning. The Big Cactus remains on pace for a 40-goal season.

Brock Boeser flicked the switch for the 22nd time, burying a first-period goal to open the scoring in Toronto. He has scored at least one goal in nine of his past 13 outings, adidas Claude Giroux jersey, the potential game winner in overtime, as he has come out of nowhere to lead the team in goals. He nearly had another goal, but he rang it off one post,Authentic Nolan Patrick jersey, it hit the other and never crossed the line. Replay confirmed.

Sam Gagner continues to play well. He posted a power-play goal, giving him four goals with eight points over the past nine outings.

Gagner's marker on the man advantage snapped an 0-for-15 skid on the power play.

Head coach Ken Hitchcock paired Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov and Tyler Seguin together on the same line and all three scored first-period goals in the impressive home win.

Seguin also chipped in with a pair of assists and a plus-4 rating. Meanwhile, Radulov has 16 goals through 43 games after lighting the lamp 18 times across 76 outings last season as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

John Klingberg continues to roll right along,Authentic Sidney Crosby jersey, two assist and a plus-4 rating. He has managed two goals and eight points with a plus-9 rating during the impressive stretch, extending his point streak to five games with a goal, while totaling two goals and 15 assists over the past 17 games dating back to Dec. 3.

Al Montoya made his debut with the Oil in the middle of the second period after Cam Talbot was yanked. Montoya allowed just one goal on 14 shots across 35:15 after Talbot was peppered for four goals on 19 shots.

Patrick Maroon was serving the second of a two-game suspension for a nasty hit on Drew Doughty of the Kings on Tuesday.

Julius Honka was thrust into the lineup with Marc Methot (knee) scratched with a sore knee. Honka had a plus-1 rating and a hit in 16:34 of ice time. Methot had just returned Thursday after a 26-game absence due to a knee issue.

The Senators, looked like the top offense in the NHL on this day. Erik Karlsson snapped out of his funk with three assists and a plus-5 rating while also stepping in front of four shots and delivering a hit. He still has just three goals and a minus-15 rating overall, adidas Sidney Crosby jersey, not the Lightning, but he has posted seven helpers over his past five outings.

Ryan Dzingel potted his 12th and 13th goals of the season. Ever since ringing in the new year, Dzingel has been hot, posting at least one goal in each of his three games with a plus-4 rating. He had managed a total of just three markers in his previous 17-game span from Nov. 24 to Dec. 30.

Mark Stone bagged a goal with two helpers and a plus-2 rating in the victory, duplicating his production from Friday's game against San Jose.

Yanni Gourde struck on the power play for the Lightning, giving him his first goal since Dec. 21, also against Ottawa.

Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen each posted a goal with two assists and a plus-1 rating in the victory, while Carl Soderberg scored twice for the home team.

Rantanen has been particularly hot lately, scoring in three straight outings while posting three goals, eight points and a plus-5 rating. He also has at least one point in 11 of the past 12 contests.

Jonathan Bernier stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced, receiving ample support in place of the injured Semyon Varlamov (lower body). Bernier has filled in admirably since Varlamov went down Tuesday against Winnipeg, rattling off three consecutive victories.

Alex Kerfoot picked up two assists and he was in the middle of a dust-up with Devan Dubnyk in the Minnesota crease.

In a losing effort, serving as the only Wild player to solve Bernier. It was Staal's second two-goal game of 2018 already, Eric Staal bagged his team's only two goals, and he has five two-goal games over his past 18 outings dating back to Nov. 30.

doesn't comment on walking,Dad says Ryan Shazier has feeling in his legs
Posted by: aliciahuang - 01-10-2018, 07:10 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

There is some good news on the Ryan Shazier injury front, as the father of the Steelers linebacker revealed in an interview with Channel 11 in Pittsburgh that his son is still in an "intense struggle" during his recovery,Womens Solomon Thomas Jersey, but that he is starting to show positive signs physically and that his "spirit is high."

Asked by Lisa Sylvester of Channel 11, Vernon Shazier said his son is "doing good" but still battling through the recovery from an injury that left him laying motionless on the field during a game against the Bengals back in early December.

"He's doing good. It's a struggle. It's an intense struggle," Shazier said. "He's doing good. He's staying positive,Womens Reuben Foster Jersey, his spirit is high. He's living and trusting in God."

During the game, Shazier lowered his head to make a fairly innocuous tackle, but it appeared his neck and spine compressed on the hit and he immediately reached for his back. The Steelers linebacker lay on the field for several minutes -- it was clearly a terrifying situation even at the time -- before being transported to the hospital.

During and after the game, the Steelers were cautiously optimistic about Shazier's status,Womens Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey, who has been spotted at team events but who has not been seen actually walking, but he would eventually require spinal stabilization surgery. The good news is that Shazier, was able to feel his legs some before the surgery and can feel them now, according to his father.

"Yeah,Authentic Joe Williams Jersey," Vernon Shazier said. "Um, he can feel them now, no, no he could feel them a little bit before [the surgery] too. It's just initially ... but he can feel them now."

The bigger question for many will be,Womens Pierre Garcon Jersey, is Shazier walking yet? His father declined to say, which is telling in its own.

"I don't want to go into a whole lot of this," Shazier's father said. "We've agreed to keep his progress private, how's he doing ... he's much better, until he's ready to share where he's at."

The Steelers ended Shazier's season about a week after the injury, no surprise given the serious nature. There was more concern about Shazier being able to walk again than Shazier being able to play football again.

Shazier did begin rehab two weeks after the injury, and has had some positive moments, however, including celebrating his team's victory over the Ravens on a Sunday night via FaceTime.

JuJu Smith-Schuster was not a nominee for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Award. By now, that is a fact that most Pittsburgh Steelers fans are aware of. In a sense, the voters were right. Smith-Schuster shouldn't have just been a nominee for the award. He should have won it.

The numbers speak for themselves. Smith-Schuster led all rookies in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He put up those numbers on the biggest stages. His biggest game of the year, a 193-yard explosion, were it not for an unfortunate call, came on Sunday Night Football. He gained 69 yards on a critical fourth quarter play against the New England Patriots that, would have led to a victory and home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. In a game that potentially could have earned the Steelers home field advantage in Week 17, Smith-Schuster returned a kick for a touchdown and gained 269 yards from scrimmage.

"He's making progress daily," Shazier said. "He's a long ways from where he was on that Monday night when he was laying on the field."

Now consider the circumstances of those statistics. That Sunday Night Football game for the ages? It came a week after Martavis Bryant demanded a trade. He was inactive for that game, when the Steelers were without Antonio Brown. Against the Browns in Week 17, and Smith-Schuster stepped up with a weakened roster. He did so again against the Patriots, Smith-Schuster gained those 269 yards without Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell or Brown in the lineup.

This proves two things: first, Bell and Bryant, Smith-Schuster was capable of posting far bigger numbers. If he were on a team without Brown, he might have been among the league's receiver leaders. The second is that he saves his best performances for when they matter most. How many players can say the same, let alone rookies?

Very few, just like very few rookies can say they were at the center of a potential Super Bowl season. But Smith-Schuster was one of the few consistent cogs on a Steelers team that faced more turmoil than any other this season. Bell missed training camp with a holdout. Brown missed the end of the season, and spent some of the beginning of the season throwing temper tantrums on the sideline. Ben Roethlisberger questioned his NFL mortality after a five-interception game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Alejandro Villanueva ignited a controversy when he was the only Steeler to stand for the national anthem against the Chicago Bears.

This Steelers season has been challenging from start to finish. Every week there is some problem that needs to be dealt with, some national controversy that needs to be quelled. And through all of it, some heartbreaking injury to grieve, Smith-Schuster not only played incredible football,Womens C. J. Beathard Jersey, but he actually carried his teammates through those hard times. He choreographed touchdown celebrations. He did fake local news segments and launched city-wide searches for his stolen bike.

Smith-Schuster took a team that easily could have devolved into chaos and in-fighting and made the season fun for them. He was the best teammate on a team that sorely needed that infusion of youth and exuberance. Any rookie can play great football. How many can unify a locker room, can be one of the league's best teammates during a season in which his fellow players needed that most?

That, at its core, including T.J. Watt, is why Smith-Schuster is the rightful rookie of the year. There were plenty of great players in this rookie class,Authentic Reuben Foster Jersey, who didn't get a deserved nomination himself. But no other rookie had the impact on his team's morale that Smith-Schuster did. When you factor in everything he did for the Steelers on and off of the field, it's just impossible to imagine another rookie meaning more to his team.

He's making progress daily," he said. "He's a long way from where he was on Monday night."

On whether Ryan Shazier is walking yet: "I don't want to go into it a whole lot,Authentic Pierre Garcon Jersey," his father said.

The Steelers have not elaborated on the surgery Ryan Shazier underwent,Authentic Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey, or his prognosis. But outside analysts have said if it involved a fusion procedure, full recovery could take up to six months.

Vernon Shazier got emotional when recalling that moment on Dec. 4 when his son called him after the injury.

"He said, pray for me. I can't feel my legs,Authentic C. J. Beathard Jersey, Daddy,'" Vernon Shazier said.

“When your child is laying there in a situation like this, I was hoping and wishing i could switch positions with him."

Ryan Shazier made his first public appearance recently at Heinz Field, attending the Steelers' game against the Patriots.

The last time the Jaguars played at Heinz Field,Womens Joe Williams Jersey, they proved to the Steelers and the rest of the NFL that they were a legitimate NFL playoff team with a dominant 30-9 victory. This time, they'll have to prove it again in Pittsburgh to advance to the AFC championship game.

Jacksonville's defense broke out as "Sacksonville" with that stunning upset of the Steelers in Week 5. The Jaguars pressured Ben Roethlisberger into five interceptions and two sacks, and had the exclamation point of rookie Leonard Fournette closing the rout with a 90-yard touchdown run.

Since then, including their wild-card victory against the Bills on Sunday. But the Week 5 loss was an even bigger turning point for the Steelers,Authentic Garry Gilliam Jersey, the Jaguars are 8-4, who finished the regular season 10-1 after that wake-up call.

The big question for the rematch: Will wide receiver Antonio Brown (calf) be healthy enough to go for the Steelers and give them someone who can break through the Jaguars' tough secondary? His presence will be critical for Big Ben to put that big meltdown against Jacksonville behind him.

Meanwhile, can Blake Bortles and the Jaguars find a lot more offense on the road to support the defense? Here's how Sporting News' NFL experts see Sunday's divisional playoff game playing out:

The Steelers will be in much better shape for the rematch assuming Brown plays. The offensive dysfunction they were going through earlier in the season is gone, thanks to offensive coordinator Todd Haley getting Roethlisberger back into the right balance of feeding Brown and running back Le'Veon Bell. The emergence of rookie wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster as a third threat is huge, and has even put Martavis Bryant in more favorable coverage situations.

Roethlisberger needs to get the ball out quickly to avoid the Jaguars' pass rush. Expect Haley to also roll him out to buy time for his targets to get open. Big Ben needs to go away from testing cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye too often. In certain sets, that will make tight end Vance McDonald an X-factor.

Meanwhile, Bortles isn't the same careful QB away from Jacksonville. The Steelers D finished one sack ahead of the Jaguars (56-55) in the regular season to lead the league. If Pittsburgh can contain Fournette early, Bortles will have trouble getting the ball downfield.

It might be tough sledding for Brown and Bell early, but they will overcome a tough assignment to make big plays after the catch and make sure the Steelers get to the AFC championship game.

Five picks. Roethlisberger surely has been reminded of that all season, even as the Steelers were riding high into the playoffs and coming within a controversial replay reversal against the Patriots from being the AFC's No. 1 seed. That five-interception game in October, now sticks out like a sore thumb. The Steelers didn’t lose again until that infamous Patriots game, and that 30-9 shellacking, eight wins later. Still … five picks, and 30-9.

The Jaguars, to be polite, meanwhile, entrenched their defensive credentials further in their wild-card win against the Bills, was pedestrian. That formula has been good enough before, and got away with a performance by their offense that, including against the Steelers, so it’s not unreasonable to assume it could be good enough again.

Brown's health will go a long way toward determining how potent the Steelers offense will be against that Jaguars defense. The Steelers are the better team. Roethlisberger is the better quarterback. A repeat of that early October upset isn’t impossible. But it’s unlikely.

If we've learned one thing about NFL owners over the past few years, it's that they don't waste anytime anymore when it comes to firing a coach.

Five head coaches were given their pink slips within 24 hours of the end of the regular season, with a sixth deciding to call it a career out in the desert. Will Brinson has all the winners and losers from the first day of the coaching carousel in his Black Monday scorecard.

To keep you up-to-date on the latest firings, rumors and hirings, here's our coaching tracker for the 2018 offseason.

Although it had been reported since mid-December that Marvin Lewis was done in Cincinnati, it looks like he's going to stay. Lewis and the team have agreed to terms on a new two-year deal that will keep him with the Bengals through the 2019 season. It's somewhat surprising that he's staying, but not totally shocking. Lewis spent the past three weeks claiming that no decision had been made and that was clearly the case here.

After watching the Bengals close their regular season on a two-game winning streak, who took the same role with Oakland, Lewis showed up to his end-of-season press conference on Monday and sounded like a guy who was very interested in staying. One of his first moves was replacing defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, with former Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.

Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye both ready for Antonio Brown
Posted by: aliciahuang - 01-10-2018, 06:51 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

The best thing that can happen for the Steelers is that Jacksonville comes into this game overconfident because of earlier in the season. Yes, the Jaguars won the game 30-9 but this is a very different Pittsburgh team on both sides of the football.

If the Jaguars cornerbacks spend too much time obsessing over Brown, guys like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Martavis Bryant will make them pay for it. And even Bouye and Ramsey acknowledge are going to need more than the pitiful effort that Jaguars’ offense put out last week.

The Steelers and Jaguars will square off Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs. Pittsburgh is hoping to get some payback for the earlier season loss and get back to the Championship.

Whaley, 45, served as general manager of the Bills from May 2013 through the 2017 NFL draft, after which he was relieved of his duties. He first joined the organization in 2010 as an assistant GM/director of pro personnel after 11 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His primary role in Pittsburgh was coordinator of pro scouting.

By interviewing Whaley, the Packers complied with the Rooney Rule. Murphy was impressed with Whaley’s resume and character when they met Saturday in Green Bay.  , an African-American

“Doug Whaley really did a job with the interview,” Murphy said. “I think it was not confirmed, so I enjoyed having a chance to spend some time with him. I'm a Bills fan, but he was the fourth interview. I knew him a little bit, so I follow the Bills a little more closely than some of the other teams.

“But he put together that roster, and it's a playoff team without a great quarterback. It made the playoffs. They have a good roster. I think that was a tribute to him. Very interesting candidate. Fascinating background. Was a stockbroker for a year, about to be a pilot and done a lot of good things. And obviously served as a GM and his background with the Steelers was intriguing, too.”

Daniels to Pro Bowl: Packers defensive tackle Mike Daniels has been named to play in the Pro Bowl in place of Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams, the team said., who can't participate due to an injury

Wild Card Weekend was great. We had one upset that we didn't expect with the Titans beating the Chiefs,Authentic Sammie Coates Jersey, and there was another upset that you could kind of see coming with the Falcons beating the Rams.

The Saints also held on for a close win against the Panthers, and the Jaguars defense dominated the Bills. It wasn't much of a surprise to see New Orleans and Jacksonville advance.

Wild Card Weekend was great. We had one upset that we didn't expect with the Titans beating the Chiefs, and there was another upset that you could kind of see coming with the Falcons beating the Rams.

The Saints also held on for a close win against the Panthers,Authentic Joe Montana Jersey, and the Jaguars defense dominated the Bills. It wasn't much of a surprise to see New Orleans and Jacksonville advance.

It certainly feels like the team is making the most of the off time and aren’t in a position for a letdown. This team hit a lot of its goals this season but getting over the hump of the AFC Championship is next on the list.

The guys were asked about whether or not they’d be watching this weekend’s games. It was interesting that they approach it differently. Guard David DeCastro played it off like he might watch but he did mention the Jacksonville Jaguars game. This is the most likely opponent for the Steelers and the only one of the three that beat Pittsburgh earlier in the season.

Leonard Fournette punctuated the Jacksonville Jaguars' 30-9 upset of the Steelers in October with a 90-yard run inside the final two minutes.

However, it was a seemingly innocent 9-yard run earlier in the game -– and not by Fournette -– that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's highlighted Tuesday when discussing Sunday's rematch at Heinz Field in an AFC divisional playoff game.

The Jaguars, leading 7-3 midway through the second quarter, quarterback Blake Bortles stepped up in the pocket,Authentic NaVorro Bowman Jersey, faced a third-and-9 from their own 9. With the Steelers pressuring from the edges, ran 9 yards and dived for the first down.

Instead of forcing a change of possession and getting good field position, 30 second of the clock before punting., the Steelers watched the Jaguars run 11 more plays and consume 6 minutes

That type of run -– a scramble by a mobile quarterback -– was the only attempt for Bortles that afternoon,Womens Carlos Hyde Jersey, but it's illustrative of the rushing threat he presents for the Steelers defense this weekend.

“You've got to make sure you account for Bortles, that we're disciplined in our rush lanes and make sure we bring him down.,” linebacker Bud Dupree said. “We've got to make sure we don't let him scramble

“He's a great athlete. He runs fast. He can make you miss. He's big, and he even tries to run you over sometimes.”

Listed at 6-foot-5, 231 pounds, Bortles is 4 inches taller and 3 pounds heavier than Fournette,040 yards rushing in his rookie season, perhaps the best big back in the NFL. While Fournette finished eighth in the NFL with 1, Bortles ranked No. 7 among quarterbacks with 323 yards on the ground.

In the Jaguars' 10-3 wild-card win against the Buffalo Bills, Bortles rushed for a game-high 88 yards on 10 carries. He had one more yard rushing than passing.

“Minimizing their run is more than focusing on Leonard, but we have to do a good job for 60 minutes and in all areas if we want to minimize the way they run the ball and the ways they possess the ball and control the game and are in manageable third downs because of it.”,” Tomlin said at his weekly news conference. “We have to do a good job there

Bortles led the Jaguars to a 10-6 record, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.Womens Joe Montana Jersey, AFC South title and wild-card win by being efficient with the football. His 13 interceptions and 24 sacks were career lows. He also exceeded 300 yards rushing for the fourth year in a row

“He might not be the fastest guy in the world,” cornerback Joe Haden said, “but it you get a first down on third-and-8 or third-and-9, those kill a defense.”

While the Steelers are concerned about Bortles breaking long gains on third down, often setting the table for short down-and-distance situations. Only two quarterbacks were more successful running on first down., he did his best work in the regular season earlier in drives. He gained 144 of his 323 yards on first down

“His mobility is a factor in the game whether it's by design,” Tomlin said. “He also does a great job of creating as plays break down on possession downs with his legs.”,Authentic Solomon Thomas Jersey, which they have several things to keep you off balance on first and second down

Behind Bortles, one spot lower than the Steelers. They also led the NFL in rushing. Which is why the Steelers would like to keep Bortles — and Fournette — contained and force the Jaguars into passing situations while sealing the running lanes., the Jaguars finished fifth in the NFL in time of possession

“That's the game plan for this week, trying to stop the flow of what they want to do,” nose tackle Javon Hargrave said. “That's big, trying to stop Bortles from getting out of the pocket and picking up first downs.”

The Steelers don't have to go back far in the archive to study another opposing quarterback who presented problems with his mobility. In the season finale, Cleveland rookie DeShone Kizer had 61 yards rushing on six attempts. In the second half, Kizer gained 16 yards on a third-and-15, and he also had a 20-yard scramble on a first down.

“That's very critical to our success,Womens Senquez Golson Jersey,,” defensive end Cam Heyward said. “Last game, we can have more success. We can shut down the lanes, we gave up some rush lanes that were huge that allowed them to run the ball (and get) advantageous yards. If we can keep mobile quarterbacks in the pocket, make them think about the (pass) rush than throwing down the field.

“If you give them wide-open lanes,Womens Sammie Coates Jersey,Womens Jerry Rice Jersey, and that's more critical in the playoffs.”, they are going to exploit you

Allen Park – After the best season of his career, Detroit Lions receiver Marvin Jones is going to stick with what’s working for him. That means going back to North Carolina to work with receiving legend Randy Moss this offseason.

“I’m going to look at the film,Authentic Jerry Rice Jersey,Authentic Carlos Hyde Jersey,” Jones said last week. “Look at what I’ve done and what I think I need to get better at and attack it just like I did last year.”

A free-agent addition in 2016, catching 27 passes for a league-leading 519 yards through five games. But a string of lower-body injuries derailed his campaign. He didn’t top 100 yards in a game the rest of the season and finished with fewer than 60 yards in seven of 10 games., Jones came hot out the gate in his first season in Detroit

That’s why one of his focuses working with Moss last offseason was leg strength.

“Just the intensity,Womens NaVorro Bowman Jersey, picking up the intensity in terms of the lower body and picking up the weight and really building the strength, because I did,” Jones said in June. “That’s not to say that I didn’t do it last year, but it’s just an added focus — less focus on the upper body and more on the lower body.”

topping 1,000 yards for the first time in his career,That focus helped Jones stay off the injury report and play in all 16 games in 2017. He also set new benchmarks, while finding the end zone nine times.

hauling in 20 grabs of 20 or more yards and six of at least 40,Jones was one of the NFL’s premier deep threats last season, both ranking in the top-five in the league.

” Jones said. “We have some explosive players that can go down and get the ball. That’s all I can say. We have the players that can do it, we have the quarterback that has the arm to do it. You match that up,“Definitely proud of what we’ve been able to do in that manner, we’ll take it every day.”

Jones said one of his focuses heading into next season will be improving his ability to do damage after the catch.

when I was young, I was great at that. Kind of got lost in the years,” Jones said. “I’m going to be able to take something to the house on a consistent basis. I just want to be a complete receiver,“I think it’s something early on, in that manner. If I do that, the game is over.”

Golden Tate,Jones’ teammate, led all receivers with 546 yards after the catch. Jones finished with just 201 on his 61 receptions.

Rams fumbled it,It was all about the ball: Falcons hogged it
Posted by: aliciahuang - 01-09-2018, 07:54 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Rams Fever came on quickly and then broke suddenly Saturday night, snuffed by a coldly compressing Atlanta defense.

undelivered,And so a season of promise ends, after this 26-13 wild-card loss at a near-full but frustrated Coliseum.

Matt Ryan’s lobbed touchdown to Julio Jones broke it open after Mohamed Sanu took a shorter pass and burned the blitzing Rams. By then the Falcons had hogged the ball too efficiently to let Jared Goff and Todd Gurley develop a meaningful rhythm.

In all the Rams’ wins this year they scored at least 26 points.

And are playoff games different? Sure. It didn’t matter that Pharoh  Cooper was a Pro Bowl returner when he muffed a punt and then bobbled a kickoff, two heretofore unseen boo-boos that gave Atlanta 10 of its first 13 points.

and an efficient offense, coordinated by Steve Sarkisian,It also took two 50-plus field goals by Atlanta veteran Matt Bryant, that didn’t suffer a turnover or give L.A. a short field.

The loss dampened the Rams’ 11-5 regular season and their NFC West championship, and lowered their home record this season to 4-5. But it at least gives the Rams a taste of what it’s like to fight in a championship ring.

crowding Atlanta defense gummed up the Rams and hassled Goff all night,A quick,Womens Amari Cooper Jersey, sacking him twice in the first two possessions.

and Goff was even having difficulty connecting on flare passes to his new favorite receiver,The Rams gained but 44 yards in the first 24:11 of the half. They also had their first scoreless first quarter in 13 weeks. The Falcons’ DBs were winning their battles with Atlanta receivers, Todd Gurley.

and the Falcons had to punt after two sacks, one by the slick Coliseum turf and another by Connor Barwin and Morgan Fox. Goff had a long way to go in the final minute,Womens Gareon Conley Jersey,That touchdown made it 13-7, but hit Robert Woods down the middle for 38 yards against Desmond Trufant. It turned into Sam Ficken’s field goal that cut the lead to 13-10 at half.

giving the Rams only one possession until 0:19 left. They got only two field goals out of it, but they kept running Devonta Freeman behind the right side,The Falcons then went ground-bound in the third quarter,Womens Obi Melifonwu Jersey, and against the hole where Michael Brockers was, before he left with a knee injury. They led the Rams 19-10 after three.

and did so barely,The Falcons were the only NFC playoff team from 2016 to repeat in 2017, with a 22-10 win over Carolina on Sunday. Their reward was to play the Rams in the Coliseum on a short week with a travel day thrown in.

But they knew it was self-inflicted. Their most recent trip to the Coliseum greased the wheels for what was to come.

Atlanta wasted the Rams,Womens David Sharpe Jersey, on Dec. 11, 2016 with a pick-6 of Jared Goff, 42-14, a sack-fumble of Goff that went for a score, and a score off a muffed opening kickoff.

Afterward, “My mama told me that if you can’t say anything good, Todd Gurley talked of the Rams’ “high school offense” and said, don’t say anything.”

The next day the Rams did say something. They told Coach Jeff Fisher he was fired. Whether they made a mistake by waiting so long is debatable, but if so, it might have been the last mistake they’ve made.

Saturday brought the first Rams’ playoff game in the Coliseum in 39 years. Again, it was a rock-bottom memory. After a 0-0 halftime tie, 28-0, Dallas blew out the Rams, as Charlie Waters kept intercepting Pat Haden until Haden hurt his hand and was replaced by Vince Ferragamo.

and not happened,So much has happened, but a few veteran fans still remembered. Someone slapped a banner against a fence: “Please, since, Georgia, Sell The Team.”

There are no melodramatic training camp holdouts anymore, no troubling rumors of a franchise relocation that finally came true, no simmering frustrations at regular seasons that always seemed to end in a Minnesota snowbank.

The Rams have kept those uniforms and thrown everything else back. The next playoff game will come sooner. At least that’s the promise.

Olson has worked with Gruden before, taking over as the offensive coordinator, holding the position of quarterbacks coach with the Buccaneers in 2008 when Jon was the head coach. He would remain in Tampa Bay after Gruden left, but the Bucs struggled under his guidance.

however,Olson has done a terrific job in Los Angeles, given the fact that he’s behind the curtain, helping to develop Jared Goff into a far better quarterback than he was last season. Olson doesn’t receive a great deal of credit, so to speak, but it’s clear Gruden respects his offensive prowess.

It remains to be seen if Gruden will call the offensive plays in Oakland or if Olson would be handed those keys, but regardless, the Raiders are getting a great mind to lead Derek Carr and their unit.

"You see this team building something, with the coaching staff and the players, you know," Watkins told the Los Angeles Daily News. "It would be a pleasure to come back but,Authentic Amari Cooper Jersey, it's a business. I'm looking forward to talking to the coach and seeing where my future is."

After being traded to the Rams from Buffalo before the season began,Authentic Eddie Vanderdoes Jersey,  it seemed that Los Angeles had acquired a No. 1 receiver.

But in Saturday's loss, Watkins recorded just one reception after being targeted only four times. In 12 of 15 games,Authentic Gareon Conley Jersey, the former Clemson standout had three or fewer receptions in 12 of 15 games. He compiled 39 receptions for 593 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wide receivers Robert Woods and rookie Cooper Kupp as well as running back Todd Gurley emerged as quarterback Jared Goff's favorite targets.

The Rams also have seven other free-agent contracts that need to be addressed, starting with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

The Rams playing their first playoff game in Los Angeles since 1979. A nervous packed house at the Coliseum.

L.A. after dark, y’all. Yeah, Authentic Obi Melifonwu Jersey,it was bound to get weird. And it didn’t take long before the bizarreness began to unfold.

Or for the Rams to figure out it was going to take more than the electric atmosphere provided by the biggest and most engaged crowd of the season and all those trips down memory lane,Authentic David Sharpe Jersey, as one former L.A. Rams great after another was paraded onto the field, to overcome all the weirdness.

Not to mention the experienced opponent standing proudly across from them in the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons.

When the sun went down and the bright lights turned on and curtain lifted and the strangeness commenced the Rams, well,Womens Eddie Vanderdoes Jersey, were nowhere to be found.

Not in the way we grew used to in the remarkable turnaround season they provided us with this season, anyway.

All of which came to an abrupt, screeching halt Saturday night in a bitterly disappointing 26-13 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in which the Rams never quite found their way out of the darkness.

Todd Gurley rushed for more than 100 yards on just 14 carries but, oddly,Womens Marshawn Lynch Jersey, never even seemed a factor.

The normally spectacular Rams special teams uncharacteristically contributed two killer turnovers on punt returns, resulting in two first quarter scores for the Falcons and a hole the Rams could never quite dig out from under.

Pharoh Cooper, the Rams Pro Bowl punt returner, muffed one punt and coughed up another.

He’s been steady all year while emerging as a dynamic weapon in the Rams return game. On Saturday he looked like a wide eyed youngster.

“I’m sure he’d like to have a couple of those plays back,” said Rams head coach Sean McVay.

Jared Goff, so poised and efficient during his bounce back from suspected rookie bust to second-year Pro Bowler struggled to complete 24 of 45 passes for 259 yards and just one touchdown.

McVay, who masterfully stayed a step ahead of the posse all years with his game planning and play calling, could never quite figure out how to consistently generate positive yardage on early downs. The result was far too many off schedule second and third situations in which the Rams had to gobble up too many yards to keep the chains moving.

A defense that played proudly and fiercely all season was unable to come up with desperately needed stops as the Falcons marched down the field on two time-consuming second half drives.

The two scoring drives resulted in just a measly pair of field goals, but the Falcons erased more than 12 minutes from the clock while building a 19-10 cushion.

And by the time they tacked on a fourth-quarter touchdown,Authentic Marshawn Lynch Jersey,  essentially, their lead was 23-13 and the Rams, were done.

It will take an entire offseason to figure out why and how a team that marched through the regular season while dropping more than 30 points on almost everybody they faced stumbled about all night like a guy trying find his way to the bathroom out of a pitch-black bedroom.

Only to stub his toe, bang his knee and slam head first a couple of times into the wall.

Only six players on the Rams have ever spent time on a playoff roster, none of them named Goff or Gurley or Robert Woods or Sammy Watkins or Cooper Kupp or Aaron Donald. Their young core, had never experienced a winning season before this one, one of the greenest in all of football, let alone stepped onto a stage as big as the NFL postseason.

But that sounds more like an excuse. Especially with the equally playoff inexperienced Tennessee Titans — who the Rams decisively beat two weeks ago — strolled into Kansas City earlier Saturday and beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

The fact is, the Rams just happened to pick the worst possible time to play their worst game of the year.

“I don’t think this game was too big for our players,” said McVay said.

Nevertheless, it would be a double waste of this remarkable season if the Rams don’t reflect back on the moment and not grow from it.

“These are all learning opportunities and examples we can draw,” McVay said.

The Rams are built to last, and as set up as anyone to carve out a nice future for themselves. They didn’t go out this year and rent a bunch of veterans to help get L.A. excited about them in their second season back home.

They have a young core that, should be around for quite some time together. Their coach is the youngest in NFL history. And while Saturday was certainly an end of sorts, provided everyone stays healthy, more than anything it seems like a step along the way the something special.

promises to 'bounce back',Pharoh Cooper apologizes to Rams fans
Posted by: aliciahuang - 01-09-2018, 07:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Pharoh Cooper and the majority his teammates played the biggest game of their lives on Saturday against the Atlanta Falcons, the first playoff appearance for many Rams players. Los Angeles came up short, due in part to their two turnovers on special teams., losing to the Falcons 26-13

Cooper had a hand in both giveaways, proving to be costly for the Rams., failing to come up with a punt after it hit Blake Countess’ foot and later fumbling a kickoff return. The Falcons recovered both and put 10 points on the board as a result

whose speedy success was supposed to inspire a wave of 30-something head coaches in the staid No Fun League.,Randy Moss and Charles Woodson were particularly hard on McVay

Going into Saturday's game, Moss said he expected the inexperience of the rookie coach, who could have (and should have) beat the Patriots in Super Bowl 51., second-year quarterback Jared Goff and third-year running back Todd Gurley to show against coach Dan Quinn's reigning NFC champions

said Moss.,The Rams indeed froze under playoff pressure. McVay's sideline demeanor indicated he wasn't ready for prime time

"I'm looking for 31-year-old head coach with some pizzazz, some enthusiasm on the sideline," Moss said. "The whole game he looked like a deer in the headlights for Coach McVay. It didn't look good.", be fired up on the sideline

The teams on Wednesday gave news media a hard-hat tour of the stadium construction site about 10 miles (16 kilometers) southwest of downtown Los Angeles and not far from the eastern approach to Los Angeles International Airport's two northern runways.

foundational pillars are rising and some structures are beginning to take shape.,A massive amount of earth has been moved

"We have completed the mass excavation," said Robert Aylesworth Jr., which is actually the digging of the hole, who is in charge of stadium construction., if you will, and we're bringing the buildings up out of the hole

"The proximity to LAX created the necessity to push the building in the ground 100 feet," he said. "Normally, so the race has been dig to the bottom and then start your way back up.", a football stadium would be in the ground maybe 30 feet but we're in the ground 100 feet

he said.,That requires more equipment and manpower to be able to complete it in the same time frame

The $2.6 billion,000-seat stadium was originally supposed to open for the 2019 NFL season but heavy rains last year delayed excavation and it's now expected to open in 2020., 70

"We're on target to open in 2020, but added that the project faces competition for labor by the end of this year and 2019 as large projects open up at the airport and elsewhere in the greater Los Angeles area.," Aylesworth said

"So we're pushing hard right now in every way we can to get as much done, but typically the manpower at the end of the project increases pretty dramatically because you're doing things like painting," he said., floor finishes, millwork and that kind of stuff and it just takes more people to do it

the Rams will continue to play at historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Chargers will remain at tiny StubHub Center in suburban Carson.,In the meantime

" said Chargers owner Dean Spanos. "This is something that's global. It's world class. It's one of a kind. Something that all of Los Angeles and Inglewood is going to be very proud of.","This is gonna be a work in progress obviously but we're starting now for planning to be in here in 2020 and I think everybody is really excited about it

The stadium complex will also include a hotel, retail space,000-seat entertainment venue., office space and a 6

Given the amount of young talent in place, but a few players left the Coliseum on Saturday night uncertain about whether they would return., the Rams should enjoy a bright 2018 season

Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson has a six-year history with the team, whose season ended with a 26-13 wild-card round playoff loss to the Atlanta Falcons., while receiver Sammy Watkins has been around only since August. They represent two of the biggest decisions in the coming months for the Rams

Watkins is one of eight regular Rams contributors who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and his situation is the most compelling and perplexing. The Rams traded for Watkins during training camp, but then couldn’t seem to figure out how to use him., ostensibly to be their No. 1 receiver

Watkins, who had a history of injuries in Buffalo, and caught one pass for 23 yards., stayed healthy all season but finished fourth on the Rams in receptions (39) and receiving yards (593). Against the Falcons, Watkins was targeted on only four of Jared Goff’s 45 pass attempts

It’s fair to ask if Watkins, would even want to return to the Rams in 2018., who had three or fewer receptions in 12 of his 15 games season

“You see this team building something,Womens Amari Cooper Jersey, with the coaching staff and the players, it’s a business. I’m looking forward to talking to the coach and seeing where my future is at.”,Authentic Marshawn Lynch Jersey,” Watkins said. “It would be a pleasure to come back but, you know

Watkins might not have a choice. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent, but he’s also the most likely to receive a franchise or transition tag from the Rams. Such a designation, guaranteed salary.,Womens Gareon Conley Jersey, almost certainly,Womens Marshawn Lynch Jersey, would keep Watkins on the roster for the 2018 season at a fixed

Other players have more options. Among Rams starters, cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman and safety Lamarcus Joyner all are set to become free agents, Johnson, as are defensive lineman Dominique Easley and safety Cody Davis., center John Sullivan, linebacker Connor Barwin

particularly if the Rams allow Johnson to walk away.,Womens Eddie Vanderdoes Jersey,Joyner and Robey-Coleman would seem to be the most likely to return

One of the Rams’ longest-tenured players, Johnson (drafted in 2012) said last month that he would like to return in 2018, and whether it makes financial sense to identify Johnson as their No. 1 cornerback., but it’s not known how strongly the Rams will pursue him

Complicating matters is the unknown health status of cornerback Kayvon Webster, a team captain who played well this season., who is under contract in 2018 but who recently underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. Webster’s status could increase the chance of a return for Johnson

“I’m so proud of these guys,” Johnson said. “You got to go back all the way in August, it’s amazing.”, we had goals. Win the division, won that. Playoff game in L.A. Unfortunately we lost but can’t take anything away from these guys. I love these guys. I came in with these guys six years ago. To see this organization turn it around and flip like it did

The Rams also must be mindful of the future. Aaron Donald remains under contract for one more season, as he showed in 2017 when he sat out training camp and the first game of the season. Todd Gurley also now will be eligible to sign a new contract this summer., but wants a new deal

The Rams drew their largest,000 tickets were distributed — but the Rams lost and fell to 3-5 at home this season., loudest crowd to the Coliseum for their playoff game — the team announced that nearly 75

That’s surprising because the Rams were 8-1 away from the Coliseum, the Rams have a 4-11 record at the Coliseum and an 11-7 record on the road., which included a “home” game in London against Arizona. In two seasons since their relocation from St. Louis

“Next year, too, we’ll definitely get some more home wins, but we’ve got to defend our turf.”, for sure,” Gurley said. “You’ve got to defend your turf. Obviously we want to win on the road

Rams return specialist Pharoh Cooper is headed to the Pro Bowl in his second NFL season, but it didn’t end the way he wanted. Cooper fumbled a kickoff against Atlanta that led to a Falcons touchdown, then one or two other Rams before Atlanta recovered., and the Rams also muffed a punt when Cooper failed to either catch the ball or wave away teammates. The ball hit teammate Blake Countess, then Cooper

” Cooper said. “You always have to protect the ball. That’s the main thing. Coach said it in the first meeting. ‘It’s about the ball.’ I didn’t do a good job of protecting the ball.”,“It’s humbling

As if wildcard playoff games in the NFL aren’t already crazy enough, he was in his element as the Rams attempted to score before the end of the first half against the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday night., referee Ed Hochuli brought his very best theatrics to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night – which is to say

The Rams spent most of the first half struggling to even get possession of the ball, finally scoring their first touchdown with 5:39 left in the half., as All-Pro Pharoh Cooper twice turned the ball over while fielding a return. However they started to develop a rhythm later in the second quarter

After forcing a punt on the Falcons ensuing possession, the score was 13-7 when the Rams got the ball back with 1:15 on the clock. They quickly drove themselves to Atlanta’s 7-yard line and with no time outs left, Goff hurried the offense to the line of scrimmage and spike the ball. There were four seconds on the clock., Jared threw a four-yard pass to Todd Gurley who was still in bounds. With the clock running

The Falcons were called for defensive offside prior to the spike, the whistle was blown again so that Hochuli could go back and review Gurley’s four-yard reception from the play prior — which was technically still reviewable in light of the offside call that nullified the spike., which put one second back on the clock and gave the Rams back their down. Before they could figure out what to do next

Nobody needs to tell Rams quarterback Jared Goff. When Ryan and the Falcons lost to Arizona nine seasons ago, for a state title, Goff had yet to enter high school. Eventually, actually took place in Carson., Goff would lead Marin Catholic to 10 victories in 13 playoff games, and Goff’s last high school game

Five years later, Goff is back in the playoffs and will lead the Rams against the playoff-tested Atlanta Falcons and their experienced quarterback Saturday at the Coliseum., and 12 miles up the 110 freeway

“It’s exactly the same, except for it being a day earlier, and hopefully we play well.”,” Goff said after a Rams walk-thru Tuesday at Cal Lutheran.” We’re going to take the exact same approach we did in the first 16 games

Goff’s matchup is against a tough Atlanta defense, one that allowed more than 23 points in only two of 16 regular-season games, in part because the Rams made that comparison last year when they talked about Goff’s skills and development., but the comparison between Goff and Ryan is unavoidable

Both quarterbacks are listed at 6-foot-4 and are lanky, is experience., with good footwork and underrated agility. This season, Ryan threw for almost 300 more yards than Goff (4,095 to 3, of course,804),Authentic Amari Cooper Jersey,Authentic Obi Melifonwu Jersey, but Goff had more touchdowns (28 to 20) and fewer interceptions (7 to 12) than Ryan. The biggest difference

and his biggest game in college at Cal was the high-scoring but otherwise forgettable 2015 Armed Forces Bowl against Air Force,Ryan is one year removed from a Super Bowl loss and has made the playoffs for a sixth time in 10 seasons. Goff is 23 years old and in his second NFL season, a 55-36 Cal victory.

to look as bored and unperturbed as possible. He shrugged off a handful of questions about inexperience and big-game pressured and kept tight to his mantra that he would treat the Atlanta game like any other. Goff broke character only once, in his weekly news conference, and smiled when asked if he had always been nerve-free before big games,Goff did his best Tuesday,Authentic Gareon Conley Jersey,Authentic Eddie Vanderdoes Jersey, even back at Marin Catholic.

” Goff said of Saturday’s game. “You always get nervous. But it’s more excitement and anxiety,Womens David Sharpe Jersey, because you want to get out there, than true nervousness. You have that little pit in your stomach at the beginning of the game, but it’s no different than any other game for me, I’ll be nervous,“Oh,Womens Obi Melifonwu Jersey,Authentic David Sharpe Jersey, honestly. I feel the same way every week, and I’m going to approach this one the same way.”

Tennessee and Minnesota,Goff rattled off a list of big games the Rams played in this year — at Seattle, and at home against Philadelphia and New Orleans — and said the Rams learned from that experience.

but Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth noted that when he made the playoffs for the first time, it’s not as though an initial playoff game equals an automatic loss. It took Ryan four attempts and four years to win for the first time in the postseason, with Cincinnati in 2009,Plus, rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez led the New York Jets to the AFC title game. Ben Roethlisberger also did it with Pittsburgh in 2004.

Is Goff cut from that cloth? Rams coach Sean McVay seems to believe so. McVay on Tuesday referred to Goff as “fearless” and said he felt confident that Goff would make good decisions with the ball in potentially stressful situations.

” McVay said, is the moment too big, “that is the least of your concerns,“Im terms of worrying about, just from having experienced what we have with Jared and kind of the way he’s wired. That’s why we feel like he’s special.”
